Media PC output question ?

Afternoon everyone,

I'll be putting together a media pc in a month or so, I've got almost all the components sorted but I've a question about the video output.

I'll be running into a lcd tv (1080i/p), I was looking for a graphics card with and hdmi output but then someone said I could use a dvi to hdmi lead. This sounds fine on the surface but as far as I can tell that will only deliver the video signal as the dvi port doesn't carry audio.
I've looked round and I can't find a lead which has a hdmi at one end and a dvi and audio jacks at the other. As far as I can tell the tv will only switch between hdim or svid or scart and not mix and match (like some old one's where you could take the video from one input and the audio from another). So, can anyone suggest how to make this work without getting a graphics card with a hdmi out on it ?

Also, can anyone whose running a media pc into an HD tv tell me if there are any problems running hd content ? Do you need a specific player to get the set to play 720 or 1080 res media ?

Thanks...

If you get a suitable graphics card with an HDMI interface then it will also have audio.
    HDMI is a digital interface.
You will also need an optical drive that meets the Blue Ray or HD DVD standard.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • most cards with an HDMI output DON'T do audio via it. I would have thought that your TV should have audio in in some form (usually phono connectors)

Then I don't see how this can work...
The tv has multiple inputs (3x scart, 3x hdmi, 1x svid and 1 set of phones), but if you select, say hdmi 1, that channel is live for audio/video. If you then send audio to scart 2 you have to switch to that channel to hear it. So you can either have an HD picture with no audio or a standard picture and audio...
Makes the whole HD from a media pc a bit pointless unless you then get an external sounds system to listen to on...

Does the TV not have audion inputs - most do? (not a scart)
