I called the Debt Recovery company, what does this change?

I'm looking for help! Having read POST 4 - DEBT COLLECTOR LETTERS, my case mostly applies, so apologies if this should be a case of 'just ignore them'.

Where my case differs is that I did call the Debt Recovery company (DCBL) when I received their first letter to explain I was challenging the unpaid charge with Euro Car Parks and was waiting for their reply. I didn't confirm my details, only gave the reference number on the letter. I was basically told "if your case is with us, Euro Car Parks must have rejected your appeal". DCBL tried to talk over me and I hung up before they could give me any legal spiel.

The charge was for "Vehicle was not authorised to park". I parked in the pub car park, ate a meal at said pub and left within 2 hours. I was unaware that the car park was monitored and saw no signs indicating as such. I provided receipts to confirm I was using the car park legitimately to Euro Car Parks. I didn't receive Euro Car Parks first letter, but challenged when I got their second and did so within the challenge window. I also can't find any way of contacting them to chase my appeal

As it stands, I have still not ad a response from Euro Parks and I'm still getting the Unpaid Parking Charge warning letters. Can I keep ignoring, or does that phone call change things??

You didn’t have to respond to the letters. In fact it is recommended that you don’t. However, it doesn’t change anything just continue to ignore the useless letters.

In your appeal to ECP did you state who the driver was?

Always ignore debt collector letters; you can reply to letter before/of claim (if you want) using the suggested reply in the NEWBIE sticky, never ignore N1SDT claim form from CNBC. Come back to this thread when you get a LOC.

Keep ignoring DCBL, do not phone them. ! ( but its no biggie. )

Come back to this thread when DCB LEGAL contact you with a Letter of Claim

  • Unfortunately I didn't check here first, otherwise would have ignored.

    In the appeal I stated

    • "My apologies for not contacting you sooner, I only received your letter dated 10th April 2026 a few days ago. Why it has taken so long to reach me, and why I haven’t received any previous communication form yourselves, I do not know.
You have indicated that on 5th March 2026 between 18:18 and 19:37 my vehicle was not authorized to park at the M&B – Amber Tavern – Birmingham. I can confirm that I was enjoying a meal at the premises on the day and time in question. I understand that as I paid for a meal and /or drinks on the premises, that I am permitted to park there for the duration of my meal. I was unaware that any additional requirements needed to be met.
Please find enclosed a copy of the email receipt for the food I ordered on that day, as well as a copy of my bank statement from the day in question."

Thank you, I'll check the “Newbies” thread again.
