Dreams replacement for discontinued bed – reasonable to ask for matching headboard?

OP said it was 'around £650' when bought.

So bite their hand off in that case given a 100% refund after 4 years.

Choose a contrasting fabric and colour for the new base?
That way it's a deliberate, your choice, difference. If brave, make it an eye-popping bright colour!

As an aside to the OPs situation, I've been shocked at the price of headboards. Nearly as much as a bed in many instances.

Update - an escalations manager has approved my request for a new headboard, separate to the insurance claim. Just need to go to Dreams, pick out a base and fill in the form from Dreams insurance as standard, then follow up with the manager for a headboard exchange. Couldn’t be happier with the result

Wow, now that's great service! Well done Dreams.

Yep, indeed. I do want to give big props to the escalation manager who I’ve been in contact with as he also helped in getting the insurers decision of a repair overturned into a replacement. Been extremely helpful and has taken on extra responsibility above and beyond what I could have hoped for. Happy customer here.

At a guess… the majority of a bed can be made from fairly basic materials without great finishes because they are never going to be seen. A lot of different models use the identical parts meaning there is more economy of scale eg every bed of every size by a brand may have the same height of divan base meaning all the upright timbers are identical meaning they can be ordered/made in vast quantifies
Headboards tend to be more unique, they are more visible and so require a higher standard of finish and materials. Therefore their base costs are higher. Transport similar, a scuff on the majority of a divan won't cause a rejection, mattresses can bend without damage etc whereas headboards are more fragile, marks will result in their rejection etc.
I'd also argue they are sold as decor rather than practical furniture and therefore margins will be higher
