Ive accepted the cost until we looked at Bill and my smart readings are nothing like mine on meter

Are you by any chance looking at the smart meter display in £? To properly check you need to look at number of kWh recorded by the meter, and the number billed.

Is it possible you've got a meter which is set up for E7 ? That will have 3 readings R1, R2 and T - to scroll through keeping pressing the button. The IHD doesn't show R1 and R2 - just T

Are these 3 readings also on your bill?

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Battery candles aren't the answer. Ordinary mains voltage LED bulbs are cheap to run so you don't need to sit in the dark. If you run candles from rechargeable batteries it's pointless because it's just a very low power LED bulb (with a bit of loss in the process), and using single use batteries would be extremely expensive.

Electric heating is very expensive with exceptions for electric blankets / throws, kettles used for hot drinks and modern storage heaters. As you have gas you shouldn't need to use electricity for room or water heating.

When calculating / comparing, always think in kWh not ££.

I'm not sure the OP has a genuine problem. Last year she was living in a 3 bed semi, 6 occupants including her 3 kids who used gaming PCs. Now she's 77 and lives alone……..

And 2 years ago her "mam" was 78 and getting searched in Asda for shoplifting…..

Have a look at OPs previous posts and you might decide whether to bother replying further to this post.

If you've read this thread, you'll know that OP also has a 70-something yo mother who they posted on behalf of last year.

This thread is a continuation of last year's one concerning their mother, who seems to now be posting in the first person on their own behalf.
