To make clear, not looking to either refer or be refereed.

Looking to move to their standard tariff without any exit fees. I've had a look at the T&Cs and can't see you have to be on a certain tariff. My thought is a could move again soon after being paid penalty free. Anyone see any reason this wouldn't work?

There isn't a claw-back if that's what you're asking. Make a small debit card payment as soon as you can to accelerate payment. Otherwise it will not be paid until after your first DD is collected.

I was more wondering if you you had to be on a certain tariff to stop those quick exits.

The standard tariff qualifies. Its the one they'd typically be making the most money on, and is the gateway to any of their smart tariffs.

I forgot to make the small payment 😣 but paid out quickly after DD was paid, switch away on the 1st

A bit late to the party, but as you have discovered, you can switch to the expensive EDF pants cap tariff and still get the referral bonus if you want.

I think that applies to most suppliers offering a referral bonus.

But another common term, certainly one that EDF has, is that the referred recipient has not been a customer of that supplier within the last 12 months.

So unless you have a list of 12-13 different suppliers all with referral codes available to you, you cannot keep doing that month after month.

And if the supplier does suspect you are attempting to game them by repeatedly switching to them every year, taking the money, and then immediately running, don't be surprised if they start to become less tolerant of you. But doing it once should be fine.

Not all suppliers strictly enforce limits (YMMV), but you could reliably pick up a few per year on a rota if you were so minded. The threshold for abuse is probably higher than you think.

I'd imagine any friend you refer to EDF won't be a friend much longer.

In fact, given my experiences with EDF, it is not a sufferance I would even wish to inflict on my worst enemy.

The OP might want to consider the tricks EDF play to prevent migration away from their service to another supplier.

Outfox final bill ignored the opening reading given to EDF (38425) and just used the last reading I gave OF (38330) so unless OF rebill me there is 95 units free.
EDF final bill is correct and they paid the £75 referee for the 3 weeks I was with them.
Never had any contact from EDF trying to prevent a move away.
