Keeping fountain clean
We have a small fountain in our open porch. We want the water to be crystal clear, but it was full of algae when we returned from vacation. I’d like to add something that will stop that. We have young grandchildren who sometimes dip their hands in, so it needs to be safe for them.
I’ve ordered some hydrogen peroxide. Is that a sensible idea, or is there something better?

Chlorine granules should do the job. The sort that is used to treat hot tubs/swim pools. Widely available.

I would just maintain it clean once/week with water and vinegar and scrub it clean for the birds and squirrels to enjoy in the heat, change the water every two days, I've been contemplating getting one, but I don't have an outside socket. Maybe a solar version is a better option for me, (and something that's easy to flush clean).

Do those cause foam?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
As chlorine doesn't cause foam in swim pools or hot tubs I suspect the answer is no.

Small piece of copper (pipe) in the bottom.

I have a large plant pot with a solar fountain that cost £10 from Amazon floating in it. I put white vinegar in the water which seems to deter the algae, and completely empty and clean the pot a couple of times a year.
I also have copper discs in the pot, but I don't find them very effective at preventing algae.
