Sky Talk call costs

Have landline call prices gone up ridiculously in the last year or so? We have been with Sky Talk (which is free if you have broadband and tv with them) for 4 months or so. All the bills I have received for landline calls are ridiculously expensive - they charge 6p to connect and then about 3p per minute which I think is a lot. I have calls with a duration of less than 6 mins costing 25p which although not much is a lot more than I have been paying in the past 5 years. I just looked up how much BT charges as we have to pay BT for the line rental as well and looks like their call prices have also gone up. They seem to all have this 6p connection charge now, even if you only speak for few seconds.
We hardly use our landline but need it for our Sky connection and for emergency calls. I'm sure not too long ago you could make a call with no connection fee for about 1p a minute or was I imagining all that?

As you still pay your line rental to BT but CPS your calls via Sky Talk Freetime (which only gives you free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls of up to an hour and accounts for your call charges for weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls and calls to other number ranges), you should only use Sky Talk for those free calls and should use 18185 or 'hop back onto BT' via the 1280 prefix (as appropriate) for other calls because it's cheaper to do so.
Please refer to the 'HERE' link in my signature below for details.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I have Sky talk and pay a fiver a month for unlimited (there is an hour cap) geographical calls which is great as you don't need to sorry about when you make calls. The only worry is this rip off 0845 and 0870 numbers of which Sky is one of the worst offenders. The web site SayNoto0870 is an option for avoiding many of these.

If you've left your line rental with BT and just use Sky as your CPS calls provider, you can choose to use BT (1280 prefix) or 18185 as time/day appropriate for the 0845 and 0870 calls which you can't avoid making.I have Sky talk and pay a fiver a month for unlimited (there is an hour cap) geographical calls which is great as you don't need to sorry about when you make calls. we have unlimited free landline calls with Sky... Not sure if it was an offer or what, but it might be worth trying to alter your package.April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200

I've never heard of Sky making such an offer so I think you'll find you're paying an extra £5/month on your Sky subscription TV bill - and get 'free' (i.e. inclusive) UK 01/02 calls at all times for that £5.we have unlimited free landline calls with Sky... They did a heavy sell in my area about 12 months ago...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -

In any case, £10/month for 'free' international calls? That sounds like pre-paying £10 each month for your international calls, regardless of whether you make them or not.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. We have a cap - can't remember how many minutes, but it is much cheaper than not paying the £10. HAve family in the US, Canada and France so it gets a battering!

I hope it's more than 1000 minutes (more than 16½ hours) because you can call any of those countries for 1p/minute or less now (see the MSE International Callchecker). We have a cap - can't remember how many minutes, but it is much cheaper than not paying the £10.
