It's ironic that the "one cool trick" that would let the OP access cheaper electricity tariffs - getting a smart meter - is something they've explicitly ruled out in previous threads due to a false belief it would cost them more.

Regardless of all the circumstances, not as much gas, but electricity is being traded between countries, hence near the double price to consumer is confusing, least to say.

85m2 flat is roughly the size of x3 bed house in SE, that hardly would ever be facing bills of less, than £150 PCM

Not sure, why, what is the reasoning behind your fact twisting statement and implying, as if I said so… never mind.

More to the point, it's obvious, that electricity pricing in UK, with or without OFGEM is disproportionally higher, that it is in Europe. After all we buy most of oils/gas from international markets, hence, price hikes are "justified by the war against certain Middleastern country"… except how come?.

The differences between the UK and Spain have been pointed out to you, as have the similarities in pricing between uk and Germany, which is a much more similar country.

If you compare across all of Europe youll see the UK is far from the most expensive, especially if you adjust for purchasing power and average wages.

I'll ask my friends, that live in France now bit more in detail, but couple of years ago, we had a chat and and he did say, that their bills are (the same as in example in Spain) where half to what they used to pay for twice smaller property back home (Brighton mid terraced two up, two down). Didn't pay attention at the time, but now I'm thinking how come, as IE EDF is French company, that operates in both countries.

got reply along the lines, that, his bills on energy are only bit lesser, than back home(UK), but it would be unfair to compare the two, as his electricity usage way greater, mainly due to AirCon during the most of the summer and electric assisted log and pellet burning stove- heating system during autumn and winter (not a clue, what is that, or how it works, but they are in bags that are about 6-8 Eur each, they need heating for about 5 months a year… again, not a clue how come), current property is more than double the size of his old house. … gas?- Big Gas cylinders- for cooking only, no normal gas supply to the property, even they are just outside of rather large town, so he pays cash once every 2-4 months to have them replaced ("refilled") at about 40Eur each…

Energy (electricity) supplier, one of only x3 in the South-Western region in France!!! (? don't get it), just to get it tested- turned on is difficult process (not due to language problems, (she was born there)), somehow connected to local town council, banking and general tax system... HOWEVER, 1kWh is 0.12EUR ct. + service charge (27 Euros (~ something like our standing charge?)), when over here it is about £0.20p + standing charge PCM.
