Item different but product code the same
Hi
We ordered our laminate flooring from an online company after receiving a sample.
The flooring arrived yesterday and although on the surface it looks the same the backing is different and it is no longer water resistant.
The product code on the sample is what we used when we ordered the flooring. Is a company allowed to change the quality of an item but keep the same product code as this seems disingenuous to me.
Thanks

It's probably under "continuous product development".
There are grounds to reject on the basis of not as described / not matching sample.
However, you probably don't need to complicate matters. You ordered online so have the right to cancel the order for any reason or none.
I assume you didn't proceed to lay the flooring having realised it was not as you required.

Have you never seen a "new improved recipe" on an item in a supermarket? I doubt they typically change the barcode etc, or need to tell you they've changed the recipe.

Goods are required to match sample as link above, if they don't and the product page made no mention of the change then you can exercise the shot term right to reject and the company must refund within 14 days and pay for the return of the goods (if the terms say you should return then that is your duty (at their cost), otherwise trader must collect again at their cost).
Whilst you can cancel i.e change your mind, that typically comes with paying the return yourself (trader would be required to pay if they haven't advised the cost of return but there will be an argument about it) and usually these places expect stuff unopened (unenforceable but again arguments).
Not really the same is it though? Unless the supermarket sends you a sample, then changes the product, then you order without being able to see any reference to the changes from the sample. 🙂
