Money saving octopus

hi there, I used the MSE collective group switch to go onto the Money saving octopus tariff back in October 2025. It was a 10 month tariff so will come to an end in August. I’m slightly confused about whether I should consider switching before the end of the tariff to go onto a fixed plan and avoid a big jump when my current tarrif ends. But the mse tool seems to suggest the fixed tariffs available now will be more expensive for the next 2 months if I move early. I assume there are others who are on that tariff, so any thoughts as to what to do. I’ve been very happy with Octopus, was on a fixed tariff with them before this one and actually on a tracker tariff with them before that. What are others planning?

I have the same dilemma. My Octopus contract ends at the end of July. Switch now and pay more for the next few weeks or wait and see?

Generally speaking, if you are on a fixed tariff, Octopus will let you pick the next tariff to move onto around 49 days before your current one ends, when you do it that way the new tariff is locked in but does not start until the end of your current fix.

Can't be sure what will be available when you hit the 49 day point, but it does avoid having to move early…

When my fixed was due for renewal back in January, I locked in (at the time) a more expensive fix early December. But it only started when my old fix ran out. If I had started looking in November, I could have got something a little cheaper… HoHum. But now that rates have been pushed up, I did OK in retrospect.

When you pick another fixed, just make sure that how ever you speak to understands that you want it to start when your current fix finishes. And get it in writing too.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Just to check did you contact via phone or chat?this is great news to hear, I can switch from next week that's when I'm in to 49 days period beforehand. It needs done before 1st July bext astronomical increase in orice cap I really want to stay with Octopus and fixes are decreasing in saving every month. I really hoped MSE would do a great deal like last year.

I spoke to Octopus and my Sept 2025 fix end will roll onto the 2026 June v2 (now v3 so different). Surprised me but suppose they have me locked in for another 12mths. Gas only though. Got the email offer with all details and confirmation when I took the offer.

I get all spreadsheet mad when fix's end.

All online for me, no phone call, it is shocking when an energy company works in a way that favours the customer…

I rang today, new fix to start when old one finishes.Received confirmation via email. Wish I'd done it earlier, but it's still a saving on what standard variable tariff will be.
