BG Share Floatation 1980's - CGT Calculation?

Hey GBD2222, that's a very good suggestion. I had been focused on selling all of my stock but I am not in any hurry so selling off a chunk each year would work. If I sell £3000 worth then I can be sure that I am under the allowance: £3000 minus original purchase price of £200. Unfortunately, I'm divorced so no allowance to share!
One last question: if I do sell below the CGT allowance, do I still need to declare it on my tax return? I think I probably do so there's always the possibility that HMRC may ask for my calculations and then I'd be back to that mess of trying to figure out all of the historical events…

I should have checked on GOV.UK before asking that last question! It appears that I do not need to declare amounts below the CGT limit so longas my total proceeds do not exceed £50,000. So that's okay the!
Thanks to all for your time and helpful contributions 😊

I did exactly the same with my old privatisation shares - sell £3k worth each tax year then there's no need to worry about what you paid for them! I still have about £1200 of Shell which will go next April.
