Can I claim 2x residence nil rate bands of £175k
Hello. I believe the rules around residence nil rate bands changed after my mother died in 2013. My father died just last week (they were married). Will I be able to claim two residence nil rate bands?

No idea what you are referring to in 2013.
Residence nil rate band was introduced in 2017 and rules remained consistent since then.
In any event weren't your key questions relating to you father's estate answered two years ago in the following thread where it appeared he had died in 2024?
How is it that your father 'died' yet again last week?

You can providing your mother owned a home worth in excess of £175k. If her estate is under £650k and he inherited her entire estate you are better off not claiming it and using the transferable NRB as that avoids the need to do an IHT return.

Thank you - I couldn't find that thread. My father had a stroke and was expected to die but survived two more years. I was merely trying to keep it simple.

Not sure how claiming a death that did not occur keeps things simple. I am sure a hypothetical scenario would have been fine without having to mislead those who chose to respond a couple of years back.
The deception did not incline me to take your present query seriously.

You will not be able claim anything, as any nil rate bands will apply to your Fathers estate.
It may well be that you are the Executor of the estate and a beneficiary. However it is best to separate these different roles in your mind. For sure you should not mix up the estates finances/bank accounts and your own ( as people sometimes do ).
