DIY kitchens
Hi,
Anyone bought the timber range, if so how long you had it? Have you had any issues with the range ie it's not moisture resistant, doors have been damaged as a result of steam/cooking.
If you bought doors made from painted MDF or other material what have they been like? How long they lasted ? Did they peel, chip quickly etc which kitchen range was this from?
Not keen in gloss so trying to figure out whatelse is best thats lasts years, low maintenance, top quality. Moisture resistant and looks new!
thanks

As I mentioned on your other thread, we have the Linwood doors and they look like new after almost five years now. The paint has probably become more matte as its initial sheen has faded slightly, which is typical of epoxy paints and consistent with the information from DIY Kitchens when we bought it.
There are a couple of small chips, most notably at the bottom of end panels where we've hit them with the vacuum cleaner. This seems to have happened on an end panel which was cut down by the installers, and not on the plinths where the factory paint finish wraps around the bottom edge. The chips are few and small, so not a major issue, but they are quite noticeable if you look for them as the finished colour is dark blue and the primer is white.
As they seem so solidly built and are lasting well, I can imagine one day we might look into repainting them - either ourselves or getting someone to spray them - rather than replacing them. This seems like a more realistic option with solid wood as opposed to melamine-faced chipboard etc which would be more likely to sustain more serious damage or be affected by steam or heat.

I agree completely with the previous post. We too have the Linwood range and have seen exactly the same. A few small chips here and there (expected with a painted kitchen).
One thing I would say is that they are very well put together. You can specify the cabinets to be prebuilt or disassemblable. I needed on cupboard that way as I was going to have to modify it and I forgot to tick the box so it came fully preassembled. It was a real pain to cut up and modify as it was so well put together. I'm just a DIYer but I was very impressed.I also think you can judge a company best when things go wrong. I had a large larder cupboard (that doesn't come assembled) and they had sent one of the pieces wrongly. They couldn't have been more helpful in getting me the correct piece in a timely way.

I also have the Linwood in Cobham Blue - the kitchen is about 3 1/2 years old, and is holding up well. It handles knocks well, and we've had no issues. We do have an extractor fan over the hob, and use it - so the kitchen never gets steamy.

Apparently DIY Kitchens have just been acquired by Howdens

At least they are leaving it as a distinct company and no plans (yet) to change it.
