Probate on line

Hi,
I was in a very similar position when dealing my Grandparent's estate. When my grandfather died most of his joint assets were automatically inherited by my grandmother, but he had a number of personal saving accounts that we needed to obtain probate for - I think it was Barclays and it was over £50,000, in order to distribute these to his grandchildren in accordance with his will. We struggled with understanding the IHT and application process but ended up doing it all online with Online Probate. DIY Probate it's an online portal that you work through step-by-step. The sections on valuing the estate and calculating IHT were immensely helpful. Cant recommend it enough.

I have to ask OP have you yet tried to read and engage with any of the HMRC guidance and explanatory links posted in this thread?
Unless you are prepared to jump in and navigate the process, you won't find (for yourself ) answers to basic questions and therefore make progress with the process.
With regard to your specific question see below-

OP just reviewed posts from you a few years back and gather that you professed not to be at all tech savvy at that time
I suspect if your proficiency has not improved much in the interim, our suggestions that the online system for probate application is relatively straightforward, may not quite work for you.
If so, you may wish to consider making a paper application using the form below, and utilise the probate helpline for help completing the form. However this will likely be a slower process compared to online application.
Charities like Help the Aged might also be able to assist.

You don’t need to claim that now. Your dad’s estate is excepted because he’s passed it all to your mum. When your mum eventually passes, you will claim both their IHT allowances, known as “NRB” (and if they own a house, also both their residence allowance or “RNRB”).
Applying for probate very easy to do online, especially since you don’t have to do the detailed IHT forms - but as Poseidon says, it can also be done on paper and posted. Paper probate applications take longer though so your mum will have to wait longer for the money. Good luck.

can anyone clarify if I need to get 3 valuations of mums house to do the online probate? Someone told me in need to get 3 then work out an average?

On this occassion just go with one agent estimate. Your father's estate is 'excepted' so precision regarding house value not crucial at this point.

Poseidon, I think the old posts were made by my mother, this is her account. I’m not too bad, but only have an iPad, not a laptop

Thanks for the clarification that you were not the original user account holder. However it can be very confusing when a new poster highjacks another user's account especially if both continue to post under that account.
The rolling narrative can sometimes become quite bizarre such as an example where a 50 year old woman allowed the 15 year old friend of her child to post a problem on her account, with no indication at all that they were not the same person.
As to whether you can proceed with an online probate application by ipad only, I see no reason why not. As far as I can see HMCTS have configured it to be mobile tablet friendly.
Pretty much all my online interactions, form filling, emails, this forum, etc, I now conduct solely via my Samsung tablet, so as long as you are proficient with the capabilities of your ipad there should be no insurmountable issues.
