Dumping the Dish, Sky via Fiber

We are soon to be with full fiber. We are still on Sky HD and have to share a Dish with a neighbor due to line of site issues. So it seems like it may be a good time to change our Sky sub scription to its streaming via pucks.

Would be looking to have 2 extra pucks for other rooms. Means we could get a few of our other streaming services under one umbrella and costing it up seems equivalent to what we are paying now for Sky HD with Sport

How do people find Sky performs especially for sport in this type of set up ?

Currently have BB with Plusnet at 76mbps with fiber up to near cabinet only and meets our streaming needs

With 3 streaming pucks 76Mbps would be pushing it, 150Mbps+ would be better.

There's an excellent (if long) thread on the Sky forums which documents someones move from Q to Stream which is well worth reading (all 3 pages).

we changed to Sky Stream a few months ago

The interface doesn’t feel as intuitive or as “good” . I used to be the sole user of one box and my wife of the other which worked really well - the puck interface and the way it’s set up works differently Just takes a bit of getting used to

You’ll probably need to set up playlists for each user as the default is just one for the account (same for continue watching)

As above - you may need to up your speed a touch

Friend moved from SKY Q to streaming. Deeply regrets it. Unable to record and the particular progs are not streamed on catch up

Obviously our internet speed is going to increase, c900mbps, so that shouldn't be an issue, would like to here from those with full fiber. I am worried about the interface as Sky HD is good and we like having programs recorded but presumably instead of recording them you just stream on demand ??

900 will be absolutely fine - we have 2 pucks and 2 PCs that can all stream/game at the same time with no issues

correct about the "saving" - however, you will still rely on those programs being available on demand.

for example - my wife had all the james Bond films recorded on the Sky Box (shes a massive fan) and could watch any of them at anytime. thats become impossible with Sky Stream as the films arent typically broadcast to then be available on catch up (hope that makes sense)

For things like a series that are broadcast on a Sky channel however, I do find stream marginally better

Its a bit of a weird concept as with HD, you can see a menu of programs you have recorded or are due to record - but on Stream, you don't really get that - you just get the program/series visible in the watchlist
