Travel Insurance for Student Studying Abroad

Hi,

Over the next 12 months my daughter will have two separate 4 months European trips as part of her degree course. She will also take a couple of short city breaks in Europe of one week or less.

Each trip will start in the UK and result in her returning to the UK each time. By that I mean that each trip is separate. She will not go straight from a city break to a study centre for example.

I am at a loss how to best arrange her travel insurance. I can't seem to find an annual policy that will cover trips of say 125 days.

Just wondered if anyone has had a similar situation and can point me in the right direction.

Any advice gratefully received.

Does /will your daughter have a suitable visa to stay in the EU for more than 90days? Or is she the holder of an EU passport?

With the introduction of EES the 90/180 day rule is now being monitored automatically and electronically, breaking them (by overstaying) risks a ban from the Schengen area or a big fine.

The 90days is a rolling period, the clock doesn't reset when she returns to the UK - if she doesn't have a suitable visa or an EU passport then she won't be able to do one four month placement, let alone two and a couple of city breaks.

I'd have thought there would be different arrangements/visa requirements for work/student placements.

I'd suggest she speaks to her university and could ask about insurance for the placements at the same time.

If necessary she can take out single trip insurance for the short breaks if this isn't covered by the 'work' insurance.

You nay need Backpackers Travel Insurance but would need to check it covers students on course visits.

90 days is typically the longest a trip can be under an annual policy, some may allow it to be extended further for a premium but thats likely a call/chat rather than something you can do online. Outside of that its single trips for the two study sessions and probably an annual policy to cover all the regular shorter breaks
