  • We should all praise Martin for bringing this to the fore.

For months I have banned all adverts wherever possiible from my kids ears- especially the loan and remortgage items. Either they or I mute the TV when one comes on- or simply switch off for 5 mins. They seem happy the reasons we do this.

I would like Martin to investigate the advertising costs incurred by the likes of Ocean Finance, Welcome Car Finance etc. etc. it must be huge!!

Also we have seen a huge increase in the advertising of the specialist debt management companies offering their services-- take my advice and leave them all alone- they will have to recoup those huge advertising costs somehow!!

I signed the petition as i agreed with the thread. I didn't think adverts like that would affect me as my daughter is 17 , until yesterday when she asked me to remortgage to buy her a car. When the answer was no, she asked how old did you have to be to take out a loan.

I will have to sit her down and get her to read the debt board.

i agree with the petition but anyone who takes financial advise from an 8 year old wants thier bumps felt! i actually find these ads amusing and disturbing at the same time, where do they get thier stooges from "Ocean finance helped me to respect myself again" are these actors or what, the new one(cant remember who for again) with Tuffers is so contrived and scripted it makes me laugh-Shame on you tuffers!
  • I agree that children shouldnt be exposed to marketing messages (particularly finance ones) but do think that the problem is not just about booking media space in childrens TV. Many students and professionals are fooled into high interest rates and borrowing and this issue should be addressed by the financial authorities to make the communications by these companies clearer and more user frindly. - Which I know is happening more and more..

Whilst I am on the subject of marketing ethics - an of course everybody is on the subject of terrorism at the moment - I was disgusted to here about those companies capitalising on the back of these tradgedies.

I can just about accept that the stock market made a fortune speculating that the sudden FTSE drop would recover and invested to that effect. But I was appaled when this mornig I received a phone call from BarclayCard trying to sell me live insurance. After the second 'No I'm really not interested' he went on to tell me that BarclayCard insurance covered me for:

"Fatal insurance cover on public transport including tubes and busses!"

I ended the call very quickly but (eventhough I work in the marketing industry and have seen most tricks of the trade) am still slightly disturbed that this is a blantant attempt to sell insurance on the back of what happened to those poor commuters last week.

    Anyway, back to work....

  • I have signed the petition and find numerous loan adverts appear on programs such as nickjr, nick, disney channel, etc, etc.
