B & Q solid wood kitchen

Hi,

Do B & Q do solid wood kitchens? If so what material are the doors made up of ? Are they any good? Do they last few yrs?

Thanks!

For the first two questions I'd ask B&Q. for the second two questions it really depends, I had a cheap flat pack kitchen for 20 years and it was fine, others buy expensive kitchens and ruin them in no time.

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Can’t speak for B&Q but we had a Wickes kitchen with light coloured solid oak doors for about 15 years. The doors were great because any little knocks and dings just weren’t noticeable, unlike painted or wrapped doors. When we replaced it I sold the doors on eBay as they were still in pretty good nick.

Im not sure any of the high street brands do solid wood carcasses, there usually chipboard or mdf

As for the doors they seem to do one range with solid ash doors

Any reason for looking specifically at b and q ? pretty much all kitchen suppliers will do a selection of solid wood doors

There tydeman range is the only one that seems to state it has solid wood doors.

A lot on here seem to rate diy kitchens and howdens who both do solid wood options.

wickes/wren etc will also have solid wood options

When people talk about a solid wood kitchen do they mean the cabinets as well as the doors?

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Thats the bit thats confusing as ive heard its just solid wood doors only, not carcasses or base units as you cant buy a kitchen that is pure solid wood whuch includes doors, carcasses, and base units. Is this true?

You can buy kitchens with solid wood carcasses as well. They’re more expensive though and I don’t know what they’re like to live with. Any wood is prone to expand, shrink or twist if it’s in an environment where there’s plenty of moisture in the air.

I haven’t experienced real wood carcasses but solid wood worktops take a lot of looking after if you’re to avoid damage.

Had a look today at the tydeman range wood doors. Very few decent colour options. The wood door on display showed areas where paint was missing. I worry most doors will have spotty areas showing gaps where paint coverage has not been fully sprayed so leaving gaps

What difference does 'local' make to you? Beware that what you see displayed in your local store is often available for home delivery only.
