NS&I premium bonds reply after bereavement

Anyone know how long NS&I are taking to respond to online form filling for a bereavement. I did this eight weeks ago and have heard absolutely nothing. Not even an acknowledgement. In a panic after getting no acknowledgement I phoned up a few days after doing the online bit and spoke to someone who said they did not send automatic asknowledgements and they had no way of checking if my application had gone through, and currently they were on a six wait schedule of acknowledging the online applications.

I know the deceased had the maximum and it seems that the regular monthly winnings are no longer going into the joint account, so maybe they have done something.

I have just gone for confirmation anyway as they will ask for it and the estate required it. But it would be good to know how long they are currently taking to actually tell you anything.

Experience from 6 months ago. After filling in the online form we receive a letter a week later asking for the death cert, sent this off and got the death cert back a month later.

Once you notify them of a death any winnings are sent by cheque (warrant).

They told us that probate would not be needed; we have left the bond in for the year, so will be interesting to see if they ask for probate when we finally cash them in.

okay that is worrying as I have received nothing in eight weeks. Though they might be very busy paying out all the fines to previous bereaved people…

For anyone else, Ijust phoned up and they said they are currently working on applications received before 30 March. So mine was beginning of April, so I will just have to wait.

I informed them that my Dad had passed away mid March and still haven’t received anything from them about that.
The only communication I had from them was a letter stating they couldn’t pay his Premium bond winnings into the bank account as it had been closed. So I changed the bank details to the bank account I had set up for my Dads money to go into and they paid the winnings into that account in April and they have done the same in May.

I originally notified nsandi in late Nov 2025 of a death. They sent a letter back in December clarifying that probate would be needed and to send the documents when granted. Probate was sent to them on the 13th March. Funds finally recieved 20th May. Premium bond wins were sent by cheque about a week later. It's really slow there at the moment. They were the last to pay out after probate of all of the accounts

  • I received a letter recently about my late husband's premium bonds, asking me to return the repayment form sent earlier. It's been over a year since I last heard from them following my husband's death at the end of 2024. I've tried several times to ring to tell them this and ask dor the forms, but I cannot get through. Each time I ring, I get a message saying 'it's nit been possible to connect your call, please try again later'. Anyone else aware of issues with the phone line?

My recent experience with NS&I has been terrible. I finally got a pay out after 10 weeks of waiting and a lot of chasing. They are working at a very slow pace and just say that they are working as quickly as they can. It is not good enough, especially when it is money that you are legally entitled to! The whole fiasco recently about past bereavement claims was not supposed to impact new claims, when this is clearly not the case, since they admit that it is the same team dealing with the past claims and new ones!!
