I always send parcels to Italy
on RM International Signed for on Arrival
airmail post. Its £3.50 on top of the regular
airmail cost.Worth every penny as they
always arrive and usualy within a week.
I always make the bidder pay for the
SFOA and no exceptions because Italy
    has an awful postal service.

also there are a lot of restrictions on
what you can import into the country
so its worth finding out what they are.

I once sold a pair of satin wedding shoes
that they were going to return, until the
frantic Italian bride, fiance and all their family
caused complete mayhem at their local
postal depot.I think they just caved in
in the end because they handed them over
to them I expect more to get them out
of the building.I would have loved to have
been a fly on the wall for that.

Never sent items to Italy but sent to Spain and Ireland, never had any problems and Ireland is pretty much as quick as sending something in the UK anyway.
  • Hi folks, thanks for all your replies, glad I'm not the only one having this problem. I looked at the forum link on Ebay and it seems as though the problem may lie with Italian customs so not much we can do about that really other than get proof of posting, Even it was sent by a tracked system a parcel could still get stopped at customs so no point asking a buyer to pay the extra really. I think I might just stop selling to Italy.
Haven't had any trouble with the Netherlands as such, although one parcel did take 3 months to reach its destination. We had refunded the buyer but he contacted us and re-paid for the item when he eventually received it,how honest is that!:j

I have sold many items to Italy and like someone else has said on here I find they take many weeks to get through even though airmail say it should be there within 5 working days

bear in mind once an item leaves the uk its down to the recieving countries postal service.
ive heard a few sellers avoiding italy for postage issues

I sent a Sony MP3 player to a buyer in Italy before Christmas, he has just left me some great feedback
  • I have only posted 1 item to italy, and it got there no probs! It was a cheap-ish item, for about £12. i just sent it normal airmail.. no signed for... and it got there very quickly!

However i once sold an item to an Italian in the UK (could tell he was italian by his name) and i had all sorts of problems with him, lying to get a refund etc... i won a paypal dispute against him, and it resulted in us leaving each other negs unfortunately. But think that was my bad luck having to deal with a bad buyer

At the moment I am having problems receiving an eBay parcel from Italy. Three weeks since it was sent and I am still waiting. Impossible to tell whether it's a problem at their end or ours. I have sold several things to Italian buyers and never had any major issues, although one parcel did take nearly a month to get there. I guess it's pot luck. One good service I've discovered is DHL servicepoint, where you can send parcels from many WHSmith stores with tracking all the way to destination.

Oh no I sent a parcel there 2 days ago. Sounds like I need to remove italy from the places I will post to option.

Aside from stating in your auction that you don't post to Italy (which most Italians seem to ignore:rolleyes:), how else can you stop Italian bidders from bidding. I don't think you can actually remove Italy from the places you post to, as Italy is not in the postage options (It comes under Europe).
