New energy tariff confusion
We are told that due gas price increases due to the Iran war the price cap will being increasing by 13%. So why when I am look for a new tariff do I get these results.
Electric currently 18.84p new 22.59p p/kwh with standing charge from 53.77p to 58.94 p/day
Gas currently 5.76p new 5.13 p/kwh with standing charge from 32.78p to 26.07p/day
It makes no sense to me, the gas is going down and my electricity is going up?

Maybe you are looking at a Cap Tracker which is a variable tariff with a discount compared with SVR tariff, both those tariffs will increase in price from 1 July.

This is more confusing when the overall price cap was set at 13%, but look at the details and OFGEM say that this is a 5% increase on electricity and 24% increase on gas. If this is the case, a home without gas (electric only) should only see a 5% increase by my reckoning?.

The SVT is increasing from July. It's still May.
Also, if you're looking for a "new tariff" chances are that you're looking at fixed, capped or smart tariffs rather than the SVT.

I am looking at going from a fixed tariff to a new fixed tariff.

And your current fixed tariff was based on forward energy prices in May 2025, while your new one is based on forward prices in May 2026.
None of this is directly linked to the Ofgem cap.
