Car insurance
I have just had a quote for my car insurance from direct Line for being a long term accident free customer, they have only increased my premium 50% to £1500.
Just in case I could get the price down I tried several caparison sites and could find no quotes from Direct Line for my car, so I tried an experiment by changing the regisration number on an identical make and model and year with slightly higher mileage I found on line.
low and behold a quote from Direct Line for £444, seems a bit funny to me. any sugestions

You can do quotes without reg number at all ,based on model. And then take it to Direct Line and ask them to match it.

Go elsewhere, as a family all 3 cars were with Direct Line for years. They started this nonsense about 2-4 years ago.
Have you looked at Aviva? They bought Direct Line July 2025. They are perhaps positioning the brand to be more upmarket. Guess DL wanted the sales figures to look good prior to sale.

Here's a suggestion, stop using the term SCAM.
Direct Line give you a quote, the price is too high, don't renew with Direct Line.
What are the quotes like from other companies?
Direct Line's products available through the comparators are their 'budget' online service only products.

Exactly. Why would you want to renew with this company, at any price?

I'm sorry if I didn't make my self clear, Direct Line are happy to give me a quote for an identical car I don't own but do not want to give me a quote on the car I already own, just like to know why?

Just might be to do with the law to treat old customers the same as new ones/?

But you said that they did give you a quote (of £1500)?
Do you want us to guess why you managed to get a different quote for an "identical" car?

Yes it could. Or indeed not.

Just play the game. My renewal quote with Aviva is just over £500, about 10% increase from last year. DL will provide cover for as little as £250.

Have had a birthday in the senior age groups?
Insurers do not like me as I'm now in my 80,s.
