Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 Question!
Does anyone know if Microsoft have any plans to extend this again for another year?
I was considering whether I would need to purchase a new laptop within the next 6 months.
Thank you in advance

- "Windows 10 support has ended. You can enroll in ESU [ Extended Security Updates] any time until the programme ends on 13 October, 2026."
Depending on the laptop you may be able to upgrade it to Windows 11 (officially or otherwise). Or some flavour of Linux if that floats your boat. If you post a model number somebody can see what it is and how feasible an 11 upgrade is.

I faced the same dilemma recently. My W10 laptop not able to upgrade to W11, ESU ending Oct 26 (although MS have a habit of u-turning on such declarations). Prices rising as RAM supply is choked.
My laptop was nearly 6 years old. The battery wasn't holding its charge well and the harddrive was 80% full. I didn't fancy moving to Linux. So I bit the bullet and bought a new (better spec) laptop for c£700. Invested a day to set up exactly how I want it. No regrets.....
… but a decision forced upon me. Would probably not have jumped had the conditions been different. You could wait, but then risk prices rising. You could buy, then MS do a U-turn and extend ESU. The decision depends largely I suspect on the 'state' of your existing laptop. I don't like being dictated to by MS but factored over the years of use I'd had from my old pc, it was ready to be replaced.
Personally, I need my laptop to be online & wouldn't counsel remaining online when ESU ends. If you can get by without your laptop needing internet, why bother upgrading? Just don't go online with it (use your phone or whatever if you need to).

Linux or new laptop.
If your laptop not support Win 11, I guess probably over 8 - 9 years old. Time to get a new one.

Simple enough to use Rufus to help you install Windows 11. That will keep you fully covered for updates until at least October 2027. Don't allow anyone tell you otherwise.
