Travel insurance - do we need extra cover for European holiday in current climate?

We have just booked our holiday for this year (August) and are currently in the process of sorting out travel insurance, and wondering what we need to be looking out for amid the current uncertainty with air travel. Destination itself isn't an issue (we're only going to Germany so not passing through any compromised airspace), but just thinking about the likelihood of flights being cancelled due to jet fuel shortages, and the potential knock-on of that for our accommodation plans as we booked flights and accommodation separately. Are there any policies/clauses we need to watch for when booking travel insurance that would protect us if the airline cancels our flights and we can't use our hotel booking? Or is the onus on the airline to offer us some sort of alternative rather than it being an issue for our insurance? I've tried to read up but I'm still a little unclear on the specifics…

As I understand it if an airline cancels or changes your flight they will not compensate you for accommodation or anything else you may have booked in advance. I've never seen anything in an insurance policy that would cover it as they might say you could drive or take the Shuttle instead of flying.

might be helpful to read a bit of this for more info about cancellations etc - Airline changed your flight time? Know your rights | MSE

I have seen a recommendations which say get insurance that gives you consequential loss cover. I’ve never been able to find any that do that.

As the possibility of cancellation is known it is unlikely insurance woukd cover it.

"just thinking about the likelihood of flights being cancelled due to jet fuel shortages"

Is there a likelihood of flights being cancelled because of jet fuel shortages?

Not according to Simon Calder this weekend.

I think his words were 'zero chance'.

    Who are you flying with?

The media has whipped this into a frenzy
