Switching from Octopus smart EV tarrif to EDF question
Intelligent Octopus Go is looking uncompetitive compared to EDF's version. I tried to use referral links to get £75 to switch but I just get a page with a phone number. The call handlers said the only was to do it would be to move a standard tariff in 7 days and then to the EV one after they've checked the meter is working OK. This seems a big risk with the new Ofgem rates due next week - the deal I want may not be there - and there doesn't seem to be a way to lock it in. Has anyone else come up against this or found a workround please? Seems to be a messy system that doesn't encourage switching.

I switched to EDF's EV tariff from UW a few months ago and it took around 48 hours for them to confirm they could see the half hourly readings.
I guess it is better this way than the fiasco that some people had with Tomato Energy where they onboarded new customers directly onto a TOU tariff BEFORE establishing that they could get the half hourly data.1 -
There are perhaps half a dozen forum users who have switched EV tariff from Octopus to EON and found themselves stuck on the standard rate tariff when EON haven't been able to connect to their smart meters.
Switching is definitely a risky proposition.

+1 I switched from EoN non-smart EV tariff to Octopus planning to go onto IOG back in February/March.
Took over a month to sort both companies and get the meter to be seen bu Octopus; by which time the (fixed) single rate Octopus tariff I chose to move onto became cheaper for our use than IOG {and in the meantime EoN's EV tariff improved a tad and I may have even remained with them}.
I was unlucky that my switch coincided with a War starting…
What is the difference in price for your exact usage with a known, lockable, IOG vs the current EDF offering and what would the latter be if you increased the unit price of EDF by (say) 10 or 12.5% as the predicted dual fuel increase will be??? {You can even include a £75 referral bonus if you are confident of getting it}.
That may influence your choice?
Better the devil you know? I have a spreadsheet to help me with the calcs for potential alternative tariffs.
