Chase bank - Credit card section 75

Does anyone have any experience with Chase bank in processing a Section 75 claim?
It's for a used car purchase of just over £5000. It's been 5 weeks and the communication has been terrible… meanwhile im sat with a car that is not drivable and exhausted every other option.

Can anyone advise how long their section 75 took with Chase bank? They don't seem to provide any updates at all.

There are no prescribed timelines and given you are asking Chase to give you £5,000 out of their own pocket the process does tend to be fairly long whilst they thoroughly investigate the claim and judge its merits. It also won't be a team staffed by hundreds of people sitting around for the next case to come in.

A google suggests that the average time is 3 months but have no idea how reliable the datasource Gemini is basing that on.

As said on your original post on the Consumer Rights board, it will take as long as it takes.

Other peoples experiences will mean nothing as each case has it's own facts and, based on your other thread, yours is more complicated than the norm.

Have you, for example, exhausted all other options? Small claims court was mentioned on other thread.

No 2 cases are the same. A c lot is down to evidence provided to back up a case & how clear cut it is.

I've had a nightmare with them with a chargeback. Entirely app / chat-based, either not reading or deliberately misrepresenting the evidence submitted to them. Failing to meet the timescales they gave themselves. I got a token compensation payment from them for that last one.

The entire process has been hopeless - but I've very rarely needed to challenge anything with a bank, so its hard to tell whether others would be better, or equally bad.

Chargebacks and S75 are very different things and potentially dealt with by separate teams. The former is a prescriptive process coming from the card networks with set timescales, processes and rules.

S75 is a dozens lines of legislation in the Consumer Credit Act with no set timescales or processes and only the fundamental rules that need significant interpretation.

Yes - I know they are different processes, and I'm talking about a debit card payment, not a credit card one.

However the issues of dealing with an app-based communication system, a bank that doesn't appear to have invested in human back-room functions, and not getting a response for weeks, may apply to both processes.

Or maybe I just wanted to have a moan about their systems as well!

thank you - yes communication is terrible. They don’t answer any queries and direct you to a FAQ section on their website rather than an update based on the case. The ‘specialist’ team just dip in and out on the online chat rather than actually contacting me direct. Very frustrating!

Thats the joy of these new app/internet based banks. They do not carry staff to contact customers.

With Starling I dont know if I am talking to a person or a bot but have found them to be much quicker to respond and normally a lot more helpful than the likes of Natwest or Barclays… the later in particular told me absolute nonsense in my first two calls when trying to add a card to AppleWallet and it showing a phone number I've not had for over a decade; the third person thankfully had half a brain and said the old number was stuck on a legacy system but its an IT ticket to fix it
