Hotels in Miami

Hi

I am after some advice, as I am currently planning our honeymoon which is next year.

We want to go to florida and stay

9 nights in the Hard Rock Hotel

and

5 nights in Miami/South Beach

Does anybody have any hotel recommendations in Miami/South Beach ?

And does anybody know of any dedicated Florida discussion boards on the www ?

TIA

Can't recommend a nice hotel but I can advise you of somewhere to avoid. The Best Western Thunderbird Resort Hotel. It is a virgin "flagship" hotel so we thought it should be Ok when we booked, but it was awful. Don't stay there!!

This is a group of 6 small boutique 'art deco' style hotels, very classy, they do packages, free nightclub entry, free airport pickup. They're pretty much all one block back from Ocean Drive spread along Collins avenue so you can walk anywhere.
I stayed at one of them (can't remember which one now) on the first night of a stag party 2 years ago and we felt totally out of place (!), but it might be great for honeymooners.
Think of Don Johnson in his white 'Miami Vice' suit and thats just the kind of people who stay there.....in fact, they were filming CSI Miami in one of the hotel lobbies when we got there. It might be your cup of tea, dunno?

A more down to earth one is The Clevelander right on Ocean Drive. That's a 'beer and pitcher of prawns' type of place, a big long bar with lots of US Sports on big screens, live bands at night. Not as romantic but absolutely spot on for location and people watching. Not as posey and much more laid back, the kind of place you can wander round in shorts and t shirt.

Do NOT stay in Cleavelander - Very noisy.

We stayed in Essex house, just behind the cleavelander. Cheapish, quality hotel and central to everything!!! And without the noise. Oh and they give you a free breakfast too. Also perhaps check out the blue moon hotel, (sounds a bit gay but it's not!)
if i had known then what i know now

We also stayed at the Essex House hotel, it's nice, it's cheap and has a great location. But only for B&B It had a bar of sorts, but no entertainment. But within this area, this is NOT a problem. However, if you want a hotel offering you dinner and dancing this is not for you. It's basic, it's clean, and it's in the heart of the art-deco area.
