Cannot permanently pair Ipod with Orange livebox

Struggling to pair my Ipod touch with an Orange livebox, as soon as I put the livebox in pairing mode my ipod picks up all the necessary data; ip address / subnet mask / router / dns which gives me full wifi functionality, problem is as soon as I close the wifi on my ipod (to save battery life) and reopen it the settings are gone and I 'am unable to join the network' even though the ipod can detect the livebox.

I've no security set on the wireless connection and I'm using the default pairing time of 10 mins, interestingly after pairing the ipod address is not shown as an associated wireless device when I check the Inventel settings (but my laptop is) have checked out a few other forums and there seems to be a lot of people having ipod wifi woes but can't find anything identical to me.

Anybody got any ideas? am I neglecting to do something blindingly obvious?

Cheers

You are living up to your username if you are not using an encrypted wireless network!

Set it up correctly and it should automatically connect:
    Join a Wi-Fi network
Choose Wi-Fi, wait a moment as iPod touch detects networks in range, then select a network. If necessary, enter the password and tap Join. (Networks that require a password appear with a lock icon.)

Once you’ve joined a Wi-Fi network manually, iPod touch automatically joins it whenever the network is in range. If more than one previously used network is in range, iPod touch joins the one last used.

I disabled the encryption as I head read a lot about WEP / WPA conflicts with the Ipod.

However, I gave it a try with WEP only encryption and I'm now up and running, thanks.

It should handle WPA encryption, which is much more secure than the old WEP.
