Does anyone regret going BR?

  • I think the only way to find out if you regret it is to go forward 10 years then look back. In the first few years you will be glowing from getting rid of the debt. Futher on you find out how it effects you and if you learned from the mistakes of the past.

I don't regret it one bit.. in fact, I think of all the nice things that debt bought and I am happy that I have led such a rich life for many years. That probably sounds very silly.

It won't ruin my life, I will be 'normal' again, and it has taught me so many of lifes lessons.

I regret that I had to go bankrupt and the mistakes that led me to that point. I felt nothing celebratory having done so but now intend to make the best of it. As for BH's 10 yrs down the line.....well if a were to extrapolate my situation as it is now and as it was prior to BR to 10 yrs hence - when I will then be pushing fifty! - I am fairly sure I will look back and be confident that I made the right choice on financial, personal and health grounds. Indeed I am already starting to see the first shoots of growth in all those departments.

I have no regrets about the actual 'bankruptcy' but I have many regrets about the situation - my bankruptcy was 'creditor-petitioned' by HMRC.
I, also, regret getting myself into the 'mess' that I was in, by trying against the odds to keep my failing business afloat.
I regret that I was unable to argue my case against a 'beurocratic' stone wall. However, the actual 'relief' that bankruptcy gave me, has been immeasurable.
I certainly have no regrets towards those of my creditors who 'simply threw me to the dogs' by passing my accounts to debt-collectors as soon as I asked them for help.
I regret any hardship caused to the three creditors who, genuinely, did try to help me, and am working towards 'rectifying' that situation.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

    No
no regrets, paid back so much over the years and would still be doing so if one creditor had not refused point blank to listen/understand.
I dont regret the not having sleepless nights, screaming at my kids for just breathing ,because I was at my wits end,no regrets about stopping taking prozac,no regrets about not being terrified of the post or phone,no regrets that my health is improving because theres less stress.
I do regret I made mistakes that brought about BR but I have hopefully learnt a great deal about my attitude to money and will try to ensure my kids are fully aware of how to deal with credit.
I belive no one would pick BR as a first option it is not easy but sometimes ther is no other way.
Life is far to short to regret what was the only solution.Life is for family, freinds, hope, joy and laughter.Looking for what we NEED not what we think we want (helped by so many companys who insist your life will improve if you had their.....................and pay on credit you can have it NOW!!!) only to find we want somthing else within days.
    No ,no regrets at all.
Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j

Nope don't regret it at all.I would be struggling right now and getting more and more in debt if I kept trying to pay things off.Of course I regret getting to that point in the first place. But I don't regret the BR itself.

  • The only thing I regret is that I didn't think more about the credit I took out. I know I should have called a halt sooner, but fear & worry are very comfortable bedfellows - when I was in a PMS mode ("panicking myself sh*tless" mode, not the usual definition :D) & loans/credit were to be had for the sake of a few minutes on the phone & the few seconds it took to put my signature on the agreement... But what I did at the time was what I did at the time, & there's no point in looking back & telling myself off now.

My credit file will be affected for 6 years, but when I think about it my credit file was affected for that long if not longer already pre-BR by me not taking action sooner. I can't regret going BR, because whatever I've lost I've gained far more that makes up for it. :)
