Not our debt

A known tactic is the partial match search. So the company does a search on CRA and pulls details of all those that match (eg same name) and write to them all. The idea being that if someone has moved they find them again. The problem is that the wording will stress consequences and maybe someone just pays it out of fear even if the debt is not legally theirs.
Simply inform them that the person they are writing to has never lived at the address the debt was associated with, and watch your credit files. They should then simply stop, unless there is a link on your credit file already.
As has been said, you might want to monitor your own in case it's reported to the CRA's that they are the same and a new link is formed.
