HI All,
I used a cheap video camera of my dad's from aldi/lidl, and it seems the video is saved as .asf files, and pretty dark despite the rooms being well lit. Does anyone know if I can convert the files to DVD format and brighten the picture?
My cousin is over from New Zealand and I'd like to give her some video of her mother who unfortunately died on Hogmanay before my cousin could get here, and she heads off for NZ on Wednesday; we only had a couple of weeks between diagnosis of cancer and her passing away.
thanks
Andy

A MS proprietary format compatible with windows media player.
What are you using to view the file?
"The extension wma or wmv is used to specify an ASF file that contains content encoded with the Windows Media Audio" implies you can change the extension from asf to wma (or wmv). You may need addition codecs for your application to brighten up the film.0 -
The camera records directly into the .saf file format and I use VLC player to read/play the files.0

For the .asf to DVD Video, you can use the trial version of Nero 8.
Don't install the ASK Toolbar and remove all of the defaults.
Once installed, you can use the Create and Edit Video tab via Nero StartSmart to create the DVD.
For the manipulation of the 'brightness' of the video(before creation of the DVD), try VirtualDub0 -
HI
Tried to install VirtualDub, but it doesn't seem to read the .asf file format.
Thanks anyway

Someone really ought to tell Avery Lee then, as last I read he was under the impression that he wasn't allowed to do anything with the .asf format: http://www.advogato.org/article/101.html what you should have said is you can manipulate asf in versions prior to 1.3d but of course you knew that didn't you
Link to virtualdub with .asf support:

and a guide to take the asf file to avi with virtualdub:

Or you could use the tools listed here to go from asf to dvd:

HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Downloaded the version for asf, but when trying to open the file I got the message:Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'M4S2' (unknown)
Guess I'll have to do more Googling......
