Fraudulent transactions - unable to cancel with vendor
I received two order confirmations from adidas showing purchased I had not made, with a delivery address I do not recognise. I tried to cancel the transactions with Amex but they were unable to do so as the transaction was pending but they blocked my card and said I could dispute the charges once they had been authorised.
I then filed a police report and contacted adidas, who are looking into the matter and will get back to me within 48-72h. Meanwhile I have received a further email saying the items have now been dispatched. Delivery by Royal Mail.
Unbelievable that it hasn’t been possible to prevent these items from being sent to the scammers but here we are.
- what are the odds that I will be able to reverse the Amex charges for this?
- Can I somehow stop the delivery, such as ask Royal Mail to deliver to a post office instead of the address? The scammer won’t be able to collect the parcels as the are in my name, and they would eventually be returned to adidas?
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

- They have to reverse it as a fraud report unless they can prove you were negligent
- Adidas will send it to the address on file - if the police choose to follow it up they can go to the address but as you didn't place the order you can't get them to change it

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

If you have the delivery address and tracking number you could likely divert the parcel.
Unfortunately to streamline and speed up the delivery process these big companies seem to pay little attention to crime and simply mark it down to the cost of doing business.

Once authorised by provider a transaction can not be revered. Even if fraud. The only party that can stop it is retailer. But odd's on them taking instructions from a unknown 3rd party are next to non. Banks do not have the time or staff to ring retailers & again there is no approved process for this to happen.
Who was the email from saying dispatched?
Amex should be refunding you as soon as it debits, if you are claiming fraud. Payment Services Directive.

thanks - just spoke to Amex who says they will refund upon completion of their investigation, is that not correct? Should they refund immediately if fraud is claimed, or what does the directive state? Will look it up. It’s £180 so could have been worse but I’m still disappointed that it is such a lengthy process.
I managed to divert both deliveries to a post office so the scanners won’t be able to collect now, and I assume the shoes will eventually be returned to the seller.
To be clear I contacted both Amex and adidas within the hour of the fraudulent order but none of them were able to act as the transaction was pending. I would have thought that would have been the easiest time to stop this from going any further but I now know that’s not the case.

Adidas would be the only one who could, but as above who do they believe?
When fraud is claimed, then PSD states should be refunded straight away. Unless there is reason to believe card holder is involved.
They will have plenty of evidence at 1st point of contact to know the answer to that.
Only thing here is that you were able to redirect delivery. That means something other than your card was compromised?
