Currys have offered a partial refund
Hi i am after some advice,
i have a laptop which is 2 months out of warrenty, the mother board has failed, and they have said
"After considering various factors, we have found that your product is beyond economical repair and so, pursuant to the Consumer Rights Act 2015, we are happy to offer you a partial refund of £273.50 in full and final settlement of your case by way of a Currys e-gift card. This figure is based on the initial purchase price and the length of time for which you have owned the item. Our records indicate that its initial purchase price was £549.00 and you have had use of it for 14 months. We will also reimburse you the cost third party report you sent in which were £36.00. In total we will refund you £309.50. "
my question is, can i ask for a replacement under the CRA or is their offer Fair.
Thanks

the rules allow them to offer, Repair, replace or refund (minus a cost for usage).
so they can do what they have done and still comply with the CRA 15. whether the calculation is fair i do not know. Generally its about 6 years due to the limitations on taking companies to the small claims track. personally i would think a laptop should be good for 4 years considering security updates and how fast newer faster models are released. What would peeve me is that fact its a coming as a curry's gift card and not onto the original payment method…

That's probably correct and in line with what people usually reference on here.
ie assuming a 6 year (72 month life) and you've had 14 months use of it you would expect a refund of 549*58/72 = 442.25 and then add £36 = £478.25

Out of interest, was this offer after you returned the laptop to Currys for their appraisal of the fault?
