"I dont see how the Seller stating I have to pay to get it checked over is legal / fair ?"

That is what the law requires. After 6 months the buyer has to prove the device had an inherent fault at time of purchase.

"What happens if you buy a TV or Washing Machine that goes faulty over less than a year old"

After six months, you need to show that it has an inherent fault. Just like with your Blu-ray player.

    "with a 1 year warranty."

What exactly does your warranty document say?

"you just ring the store you bought it from eg Currys etc."

And m, for a CRA claim, they will ask you for an engineer's report.

Thanks born_again. Just to clarify this point "if an attempt at a repair or replacement is unsuccessful." Is that by the supplier ? As they are making no attempt to do either. Thanks.

Supplier is the company you bought from (NOT onbuy)

You still need the report to confirm a inherent fault.

What warranty information did you get with the player?

Did you have to register your purchase with Panasonic?

Are you sure the player was new as it seems to being treated as out of warranty?

Ive asked the Supplier to provide a copy of the Warranty issued with the player as I cant see any evidence of it online.

I cant honestly remember if it came with one of those 'register your warranty' forms. I always believed those werent totally necessary as long as you could prove purchase. (Im sure Ive read that on here).

Thanks again, will keep you posted. I hope it may be of information to others buying on line.

Doesnt have to be the supplier themselves, they can instruct others to do it on their behalf but as has already been pointed out, before they attempt a repair they are entitled to require you to prove its an inherent defect which is the point you are at now.

Warranties are on top of your statutory rights, they can make you jump through whatever hoops they want to put it into force.

Often companies do a deal with someone like Domestic & General and basically offer the extended warranty for free in exchange for your details and the ability to try and sell you a further extension to the warranty. They can't deny your statutory rights for not registering but they can deny you any warranty.

It would seem Panasonic are generous

Please note, the online registration does not affect the warranty of your unit.

All you need in order to benefit from your warranty is to keep your proof of purchase safe as this qualifies as your standard guarantee.
