Not sure how that would help as the OP would then still have to foot the majority of the bill themselves, which was the basis of their original complaint.

    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

It has been like this for a very long time. Many years ago I had a windscreen fitted and when I said it would be insurance, the fitters asked who the policy was with to make sure that they would get paid before booking me in.

(Did Autoglass not check and point out that they don't have a contract with her insurer?)

There used to be windscreen repairers that pitched gazebos on car parks and offered "free" chip repair. As soon as I told them who I was insured with they wouldn't do it for "free"

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

With many insurers glass claims are fully outsourced to a glass replacement firm, the telephone number is answered by them, they validate the policy and at the end of the month they send an invoice and bordereaux that covers all the vehicles they've handled.

The partner will know the policy terms, if the insurer requires OEM or will pay for branded etc, they are subject to periodic audit to ensure they are sticking to the terms, they give significant discounts for the volume of business they get etc. Going to some random company puts all the claims handling expenses back on the insurer plus the challenges if something outside of the terms has been fitted.

It's common for insurers to have a cap for non-preferred supplier glass cover, but it's not hard to google your insurance firm and then find the glass claim telephone number on their website. There is one broker who's taking the idea further and doing the same with other claims, use their approved repairer else there is a very low cap on what they'll pay to another firm.
