Is there an easy way to get alerted to new planning applications?

I'm currently in the process of purchasing my first house. I'm curious whether there's an easy way to see planning applications nearby, ideally on a map. I'm definitely not a NIMBY, but I'm still interested to see how the rest of the development will expand (it's a New Home).

Yes, I’ve not really used for your exact purpose, but I’ve needed to search for recent planning applications across the UK (from different councils), so have used quite a range of tools. However, the one I use now is Plota ( https://plota.co.uk ) as it seems to be the most consistent and easy to search - it links out to the council website, and saves a lot of time (I won’t name names but some council portals are dreadful). I haven’t setup alerts, but I think you can do this as well, so might work for you.

My local council have email alerts for local planning applications. I always assumed that was common for all councils but that assumption may be incorrect.

My council lets you get notifications for status changes on a specific planning application, but not general alerts for new applications in a given area. One of my first jobs was for a national retail chain, and we’d enter potential new developments into a database, which then fed into the weighting for potential new branch openings. Some planning authority sites are really good, but others are unbelievably counter-intuitive - I still have nightmares.

Do be aware that even though developers originally applied for PP for 10 x "Upmarket" type detached 5 bed executive homes on part of the estate, they may get an application to vary these to 25 x "Downmarket" type terraced 2 bed homes rubber stamped

If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
