June 2026 Disabled Adapted Homes Council Tax Discount.
It has been said that as of June 2026 there will be an entitlement of a 25% discount on Council Tax for home owners with Adapted Disabled Homes. This new discount would replace the existing discount which lowered the tax band by one division aprox 17%. Any addition would be helpful, however as usual, it will not be automatically applied and must be requested.
To date I have not been able to confirm any of the above statement so it is either another "U" turn that never got implemented or just more "internet miss information". The usual GOV.UK website passes the buck and tells you that it is up to your local authority to implement Council Tax discounts.
The reaction of my local authority is unsurprising and total denial is the only reaction so far! Is there anyone out there who has any knowledge of this statement or is it just a wish list?

It has been said by whom? Where did you see this?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.0 -
There has just been a consultation and anouncement on changes to the council tax system-
But the proposed changes will be 2027/2028 and do not include any such discount as far as I can see.
The changes are to make it payable in 12 monthly installments rather than just 10, and to give more time to pay arrears before a council can take legal action to recover.

Newcad has it right, I think the OP has crossed wires somewhere. The recent consultation is about paying council tax over 12 months instead of 10 and giving people longer before enforcement, due 2027/28. There's no 25% adapted homes discount in there that I can find.
The relief that already exists is the Disabled Band Reduction Scheme, which drops you down one band. It's massively under-claimed. Anyone reading this who's done significant adaptations (extra bathroom, room used mainly by the disabled person, space for wheelchair use indoors) should look into it because a lot of people who qualify have never applied.
The bigger problem isn't the size of the discount, it's how inconsistently councils handle the application. Some accept a GP letter, others want an OT assessment and a home visit, and the people who most need it are exactly the ones who give up halfway through. If you've been told no by your council, push back and ask which specific criterion they say you fail.
