Vinted frustration

I purchased an item on Vinted that was misrepresented by the seller. The seller acknowledged that it was not the brand in the listing and agreed to a return but at my own cost. I emailed politely to point out this is quite unfair as my only mistake was trusting what they’d said and would they cover the postage. They completely disengaged and ignored several follow ups. Vinted informed me that the policy is that the buyer has to cover the postage even if the seller misrepresents the item. What’s more frustrating is that I don’t even have an option to provide feedback to the seller. Every time I try to contact support - I get into a robot loop. When I’ve managed to get through to an human being after considerable effort the conversation was automatically closed because they already responded to the policy question before therefore I cannot even ask about how I can provide seller feedback. I understand now why the seller was so complacent. Vinted seems to be only as good as the buyer or seller you’re dealing with and offers no protection if you have an issue. Anyone else had similar issues and can I really not provide feedback? I’ve only been able to provide feedback on the good sellers but not sure why this isn’t coming up for this seller. Perhaps because I waited to give them the benefit of the doubt or because they agreed to a return?

This is a known issue with Vinted, they have always stated that the buyer must pay to return.. Also as you have found out if you return an item then the sale is completely cancelled and feedback cannot be left either way.

The only time buyer doesn't have to pay to return is if they can show tiem was a fake (another issue with some sellers) or was damaged beyond repair on arrival.

  • Thanks - that’s useful to know. I’m not sure why Vinted couldn’t have told me that.

It’s very odd that if you have to return an order because of an issue you can’t leave feedback. It seems like a haven for scam sellers. I also realised that the item wasn’t new as described as it smelled of detergent (they used the old trick of reattaching the tag with string).

Shame that I can’t even warn other prospective buyers- the seller will continue to scam people with their glowing reviews!

  • fyi for anyone reading this, I have reported this to trading standards via the citizens advice bureau. They have raised a report and encourage anyone else with similar issues to also call them on 0808 223 1133 (open 9-5)

    I made these points:

1- although consumer standards are not designed for peer to peer Vinted has a responsibility to protect consumers

2- Vinted’s buyer protection fee raises an expectation that consumers will not be out of pocket if they have done nothing wrong

3- inability to provide feedback places future buyers at risk unnecessarily when this is easily preventable

  • Ironically, while with a friend this weekend they mentioned that they had also just been scammed on the platform.

Just a warning for anyone thinking about using Vinted after they bought a pair of sunglasses on there. They’ve never sold anything on the platform, yet somehow their account was later closed for “fraudulent activity” with no explanation and no way of speaking to anyone about it.

When the parcel arrived, it was just cardboard and junk mail stuffed inside to make it feel like something had been sent. No sunglasses at all.

My friend is now having to try to get their money back through the bank because dealing with Vinted support has been almost impossible.

On top of that, they’ve been blocked from leaving a review, so they can’t even warn other buyers about the seller so the scammer can move on to the next victim unhampered!

While they were relating their experience another friend mentioned that when trying to make genuine reports about counterfeit goods in the past, Vinted took no action and yet it’s the scammers who are somehow able to manipulate the system to get their victims banned(!)

Please warn others and be careful about using this site - especially if you plan to buy anything of value!

If the account is closed, there will be no option to leave feedback?
