Those Postcodes relate to a large sorting office.

    Thanks for the reply's.
Sorry for assuming google would give me the answer to the PO Box location. Of course, I should have looked at the post office to find it.
Still don't know why they've put Wigston in the address.
I will get my parents to pursue PayPal to get this sorted.

Not quite answered all my queries.

Your mum had a PayPal account.

When you access the account is there anything on there about credit purchases in the activity section?

Anything in her purchase history going back from 6 months that she doesn't recognise?

You say PayPal credit but does it mention credit card or pay in 3, 6 or 12 months?

You have not said if your mum has any medical issues like dementia or the like.

Has anyone that she knows have access to to electronic devices that could of obtained credit facilities?.

I would with her permission check all her finances like bank accounts and credit cards asap(if you haven't done so) to be sure nothing else is amiss.

We have checked her paypal account there isn't suspicious activity on there.

The letter shows the last 4 digits of the account and that isn't the same as her paypal account.

She's in good mental health. Though this situation has driven her mad.

You say PayPal credit but does it mention credit card or pay in 3, 6 or 12 months?

Do you mean on the letter? I don't think it states any type, just that the amount owed and that the late fee has been applied due to minimum payment not received. Sorry I can't give you defiant answer, but I don't have the letter in front of me.

No one has access to her devices.

I'll double-check with her that all her bank and credit cards don't have any issues.

We've reported the fraud to PayPal and the credit agencies. She's also purchased Cifas identity protection this week.

    Thanks again for your reply's

As you have said that you can see the PayPal credit listed on your mum's credit files in credit searches part does it tell you when the company did a soft/hard search and for the credit amount do you know what the limit was?

If you get a date then you and your mum can try and recall what she bought at that time or did she get any emails from PayPal.

You have had 3 letters so I assume 3 months so the credit could of been obtained early this year.

As her credit has been reduced due to this I am not sure if calling them all up and explaining it to them would help or hinder things.

the number didn’t appear to match anything obvious online:

    0800 368 7151

contacted PayPal directly using their fraud phone number from their official website (0800 368 7155)

The similarity in the phone numbers looks obvious to me.

I did a Google of the 7151 number and it was on some debt forum as being real and belonging to PayPal debt collection arm.

The OP keeps going on about the last 4 digits not being the same but are they for the credit account and not just the normal PayPal account?

As the OP's mother has had her limits dropped then this to me means the account from PayPal is real but maybe fraudulent but needs the mother to check all finances and change passwords and be prepared for a long battle to get it sorted and her credit file reastblished to before this happened as if not she will be in for 6 years of no credit or very high interest rates and insurance issues due to fraud on her credit file that was not her fault.

My guess is, like the PO Box, they have separate numbers for general PayPal Credit enquiries and Collections.

    It's not unheard of.

For a company of PayPal's size, it's quite likely.
