4 pole isolation
Hi, just wondering if anyone could help me which an issue I have with EDF.
Im having a kitchen extension done and I need EDF to do a 4 pole isolation switch before my builder can start, I have been waiting for months for an appointment each time I phone them I get told there is no appointments. I don't know what else to do.

Do you already have a smart meter? If not, they usually fit an isolation switch when they fit the meter.

Not for me. Possibly my meter cupboard was a bit too crowded?

I had isolators fitted by EOn when went RTS to digital c10 years ago. One single phase for 24/7 live/ neutral - one 3 phase to drive two restricted CU circuits (2 live and nuetral - third live not used) the 2 independent restricted lives that used to be driven direct from integrated RTS meter/switch
I sadly had them removed when went digital to smart with external Proteus ALCS contactor - 8 years ago - no room - for the laerge isolators and the Proteus - and for the meter tails between all 3 inc a couple of henleys in a standard sized electric only wall mounted meter cabinet.

Perhaps I should have added that you should request the switch when you order the meter. It worked for me, anyway.

I didn't ask - they just fitted - but the smart meter guy did tell me he was going to "have to" remove before going ahead.

Meter fitters have the authority to remove the mains fuse, which has the equivalent effect to turning an isolation switch to off. At the end they replace the fuse and remake the seal. Many electricians will do the same thing, although they are not authorised to do this and they cannot remake the seal afterwards. But in the absense of an isolation switch it's by far the safest option, surely?

No I haven't got a smart meter

IIRC many trade body registered firms are authorised by at least some of the major UK DNO's to pull the fuse.
But they are then supposed to notify - and the DNO redoes the fuse seal / tag (or more likely just knows its gone) if becomes a question.
