Solar PV Battery Insurance

Hi, I have a new solar install and the PV battery placement needs to be a on a party wall. I understand my Home insurance will need to be updated to cover my house install, however, outside of the party wall agreement, is there any Insurance issues for the neighbour whose wall the battery will be fixed to? Thanks.

I contacted my insurance company about our solar, they weren't interested.

Yes. Ours isn't on a shared wall. It's worth contacting your insurance company though as yours may take a different view to ours.

Home insurers can only require you to answer questions that the specifically ask about; they can't have issues with you not volunteering something they havent asked you about.

Personally have never been asked about solar or PV battery but there may be some that do. In my circumstances therefore the only thing I would need to declare is if I think its impacted the value/rebuild cost of my property to take it above the limits already in place.

Ok, thanks - my query though is more inline with the neighbours insurance than mine and ergo, go some way to allaying any fears they have on having a battery attached to their wall. My terraced house is between 2 extended houses so the party wall is the side of a neighbour.

Ok, was there any impact on the other owner's insurance of the shared wall / house or was there no impact? The question has been raised of their insurance and impact of it. Thanks.

The same would apply to them, they would only need to declare it if their insurers asked about. Some do ask about things outside of the boundaries of your property (bodies of water, tall trees etc) but given no one is asking about own batteries the chances of a firm asking about other peoples batteries are even smaller.

We have a link detached property, attached at the garages. All our equipment is in on 'our' side of the garage, nothing on the shared wall so no impact to the neighbour. As I said the insurance company weren't interested in the equipment, the only impact it would have is in the rebuild value of the property as it's buildings rather than contents.

You say the 'question has been raised', who by?

Thanks - Question has been raised by the neighbour as I assume trying to cover all the bases and also before a conversation with the insurer has taken place at their end. I am trying to understand my side and what impact this might have on the neighbour, which from what I can see, could be minor / negligable on a potential coverage basis.
