Non Fault Claim On Home Insurance - Is this classed as a claim or not?

Last year we made a claim through our home insurer after our boundary wall was hit, our insurer has now closed the claim and confirmed this was a non fault claim and that they have recovered all of the costs from the 3rd Party Motor Insurer. They have also re-instated our no claims discount.

I am now trying to arrange our insurance for the new year and am wondering how to answer the question "Have you or anyone living at the property made any home insurance claims or suffered any losses in the last 5 years?" If I say yes, most insurers do not ask whether we were at fault or not, some don't even give the option of selecting collision damage.

My current provider has issued a quote based on there being no claims so should this claim be noted or not when asking for quotes?

    I doubt if the fact that the claim was marked as 'no fault' will have much bearing on quote generation.

    The fact that your wall was damaged in an accident means (statistically) that it is more likely to happen again, it's the same for most insurance claims (other than life policies). Whether this has a material effect on any future quote for coverage will be as much a marketing decision as an underwriting one.

    What does your renewal notice say in the claims history section?

    Generally you are required to mention all losses irrespective of if you claimed or not and irrespective of fault so the normal answer would be yes it needs to be declared still. Hopefully the quote system then goes on to ask about both if you claimed and if it was fault. In practice Home insurance doesnt often go into the same level of detail because its a very small proportion of claims where a recovery from another party is possible plus many may not consider a flood "their fault" not appreciating that the insurance definition of fault is basically net outlay and nothing to do with blame.

    It may be sensible BEFORE buying to speak to whoever you've selected and check that you've recorded the matter correctly for their processes.

    I agree and I have been told verbally by another insurer that Fault/Non fault is irrelevant for home insurance.

    As @MyRealNameToo says, it's best to call and check before buying.
