I’ve got the claim number from DCB legal, so I will follow your advice. Thank you!

You will probably have to give them your name and address and state that the claim form pack was posted about a week ago, the main thing you need is the reference number, possibly the POC from the lower left of the claim form, they won't or cannot give you the password for MCOL

As long as you get the claim reference number, you can do everything by email, same as everyone did a year ago

Don't panic, the default deadline is 19 days at the moment, from say 17th or 18th June

Ring DCB Legal and ask for the claim number they will have this on file (the CNBC dont normally have a search facility but you may get lucky)

However DCB Legal will have the claim number once you pass security

Your footer is below, obviously you add your e signature and date etc

    Statement of Truth

I believe that the facts stated in this defence are true.  I understand that proceedings for contempt of court may be brought against anyone who makes, or causes to be made, a false statement in a document verified by a statement of truth without an honest belief in its truth.

Your defence will be the 11 paragraph template defence by MSE member meltof dated 12th April 2026

No changes, no additions, just copy and paste below the header, above the footer

Add your name, date and an E signature at the bottom of that footer

    Save as a docx

Save again using Save as, choosing pdf to publish it

Attach the completed pdf to your email, add claim responses as the destination, add name and claim reference number to the email, send, checking for the auto response email back from the CNBC

Yep use the Meltof defence with the above header and ending added top and bottom on a word doc, then electronically sign & date it.

Save as a PDF (do not email a word doc).

NO SCANS AS THE CNBC WILL IGNORE SCANS.

I will add you to my recent collection of DCB Legal./Smart new claims we are handling, linked on page 10 here:

Click on any of them. Yours is the same.

There is a current tsunami of Smart Parking claims.

So much so, that I now have copy & paste advice ready AND a bespoke defence:

Just click on the username @Meltof

Copy their version of a Smart Parking final defence posted on April 12th. Obviously, as they didn't use the POFA until 2025, theres no 'keeper liability' possible with Smart's claims for old PCNs.

These claims are all the same (none go to hearings) and the sheer numbers of Smart Parking claim threads - about half a dozen new ones EVERY DAY here - have driven us regulars a bit mad in April/May with this batch!

    Literally read any Smart thread…

Follow the 8 steps in the Template Defence thread which also covers Mediation.

It'll be discontinued just before the hearing fee falls due in the Autumn/Winter.

Read @Umkomaas' thread of over 875 examples …and counting! Yours will end up there. You can still use the Meltof defence, even though you blabbed about driving in 2024 because DCB Legal have no file or details and will discontinue. It is their MO. 100%.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Remember , a pdf only, no docx documents , no pictures, no scans, no posting, email only, check for receipts as auto response emails back, to prove delivery to the CNBC

You dont really need the missing paperwork, as long as you have the claim reference number
