what are my rights

So before christmas contacted a company for a new door and side panels. Company have been around for a while though the directors regualary change. Price agreed and document signed, said approximately 12 weeks for fitting. Paid the 50% deposit and then 40% when a fitting date agreed. Twice they have email with fitting date and twice they have made excuses. Today they have come with the door, third time lucky I thought and the door is way too big so they have gone away again. What are my rights? They have my money and I have no door? Any advice would be appreciated. I have the details of the company directors as they only answer to emails. Do I have any rights to a refund? I have checked and one of the directors has resigned and when I went to the showroom it did look quite bare and a lot of staff have left but nothing online as yet stating they are in administration.

Could you let us know how you paid and if you paid any amount on credit card?

  • Sadly I paid via BACS as that was the only option on their documentation.

To make matter worse two days later they have emailed me to say they have ceased trading. Have checked on companies house and it does not say anything yet but the interesting thing is that the company ceased trading on the 14th May, the Secretary of said company resigned on 6th May and the original company has been "taken over" by a company whose director is the same person as the ceased secretary. I have called them to ask for name of adminstrators and the people in the office are the same people as the last company just with a different trading name. Feel so let down and can't afford to lose the money as I had taken out a loan to pay for it. 😪

As it looks like they have gone bust and maybe knew they were going to do so did the door they tried to fit was the same as you ordered?

They could of just turned up with any door and say it was not correct and then leave as you have paid the 90% of the money by Bacs and I don't think you can get it back as the company may have gone bust.

Only bank transfer would have raised red flags for me.
