Hotel accepte booking and only then advised they take a 100GBP Security Deposit on check-in...

…and adds:
'(You should be reimbursed within 30 days of check-out. Your deposit will be refunded in full via credit card, subject to an inspection of the property.)'

Is this legal? 🤠

Yes, if it's in the Ts and Cs.

    Time to dig them out.

Is this really a hotel, or an apartment / air Bnb / / guesthouse / dorm / similar?

Do they really mean that they take a security deposit, or do they mean they place a dummy holding transaction on the CC that clears once the bill is settled on check-out?

Do they really mean security deposit (which I would think refers to the risk of damage caused in the room) or do they mean a holding charge on the CC for expenses that might accrue such as bar bill, dining? This could also be called a "security deposit" if the meaning was intended to be interpreted as security against non-payment for extras.

It's a proper hotel (Nox Hotel, Edgware Road) and this is what they've said:

'Also, please kindly note, that upon Check-In a £ 100 GBP Security Deposit by the same Credit or Debit Card used to pay for the booking will be required (You should be reimbursed within 30 days of check-out. Your deposit will be refunded in full via credit card, subject to an inspection of the property.).'

My main issue with this is that we were only advised of this 'policy' once the booking had been made, and it's non-refundable. Feels like sharp practice to me at the very least.

Anyway, thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.
