Though the National Insurance Manual suggests using certain tax cases to work out what "ordinarily resident" means for NIC purposes.

Ordinary residence used to be a term of art for tax purposes (distinct from plain old residence) but maybe that has gone with the new residence test.

Uk tax residency and continued entitlement to annual state pension increases in payment are conjoined so not going 'off tangent'- see extract below from an LITRG article on this point -

If you retire abroad to any other country, you will not get any annual increases in your state pension. However, there is an exception – if you retire abroad ‘part-time’ but live in the UK for part of the year and remain ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK you will get annual increases in your state pension.

Understanding what 'ordinarily resident' as a tax concept means in this context is key.

The main article from LITRG below might assist others ( if not the OP) who wish to have a substantial annual presence in a foreign country without jeopardising rights to state pension increases -

For DWP purposes, "ordinary residence" appears to be described for the purposes of deciding a person's ordinary residence in the Decision Maker's Guide at 070769 to 070789. As already stated, it's a complicated issue and one best discussed in the context of the original question, with DWP IPC.
