Almost every high street bank has had historic problems, some have received large fines/penalties. Additionally if you read this forum you will discover many members have day to day issues with some of the best known banks & building societies. My conclusion is that none of that really matters to most people, they are driven by what's on offer. An attractive product with a good return that suits their needs will override almost any problems. Someone somewhere will likely have had a problem with GB Bank.

Exactly. If a bank is really awful then many threads will appear complaining about them. People are generally much more likely to post about negative experiences and will rarely hold back until asked.

Personally, I don't go out of my way to avoid providers others have had problems with. The silver lining is that problems can be very lucrative if you are willing to see a complaint through. For example I thought I'd be fighting my corner to get what I was entitled to out of Plum, given all the negative feedback on here, but it turned out they behaved themselves in my case. I'd have missed out on an excellent rate of interest had I avoided them.
