Civil Enforcement in-house Claim, Defended, Past Mediation

  • Thanks a lot, I will probably just CC all of those addresses, just to be on the safe side lol. 😂

  • UPDATE

    Hi All,

Had the mediation call today. The claimant started at around £289.32 (original amount), then reduced their offer to £100, followed by £60. I offered £20 and remained at £20 throughout, making it clear I wasn't prepared to increase my offer.

The claimant rejected the £20 and wouldn't go below £60, so no agreement was reached and the mediation ended. The case will now proceed on to the next stages.

I was just wondering if this was the right thing to do? Obviously, I don't want to pay anything at all. However, I'm surprised they went down a full £229.32!

Seems pretty standard to me, they want an easy win without paying out for a hearing

Please change your thread title to something more suitable like

It was the right thing to do!

CEL are discontinuing defended claims before hearings. Seem hearing-shy these days.

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Thank you all, lets see what kind of BS they come up with next. - P.S. I did receive an email confirming mediation as not settled and small claims service encouraging both parties to settle. lol.

  • Hi All,

Update: I received the following letter yesterday titled 'Notice of Trial Date'. It looks like that this hearing has already been listed as 'at risk'.

I will of course make sure my documents/witness statement etc is ready by the date suggested on the letter of 26th October.

To be honest I'm hoping I won't have to go to court and put in all of this effort to defend myself lol.

Fine. Do nothing and ring the court a couple of days after 19 October to see if they've paid the hearing fee, which they probably won't have.

They'll probably try and beg you to settle over the next couple of weeks.
