NHS scheme allows husband to lease a second car which his wife uses.

I don't know whether the NHS lease scheme insurance is different but normally named drivers are only covered for SDP and not commuting or business

I think the OP and her husband might have a problem here, and it's not an insurance problem…

As a former NHS manager myself I find it hard to believe that NHS fleet solutions would provide a car to an employee's spouse for the spouse's own non-NHS work if the spouse isn't a NHS employee.

I'd be very interested to know what the OP's husband told NHS Fleet Solutions to get the car in the first place

I suppose the obvious solution is for the OP's husband to take over the OP's NHS car and for the OP to take over her husband's car, and to stop rocking the boat before awkward questions are asked.

    How does that help?

The husband’s car is business use for NHS only

Does the NHS scheme really allow an individual employee to lease more than one car?

Are we certain that the car the husband is currently using is also provided by NHS Fleet Solutions?

I took the OP's reference to her car being a "second car" to mean that her husband's car was his own privately owned vehicle and nothing to do with NHS Fleet Solutions.

(Again I'm surprised one employee can get more than one car)

Does the NHS scheme really allow an individual employee to lease more than one car?

OP says that yes, it does:

My husband works for NHS and I'm a named driver on a second car leased through Fleet Solutions.

And the NHS Fleet Solutions FAQ seems to agree:

OK. I'm surprised the NHS scheme or any NHS trust permits that

I took the OP's statement "… I'm a named driver on a second car leased through Fleet Solutions…" to mean that the second car was leased from NHS Fleet Solutions, and not the first car.

If the OP meant that both cars are provided via the NHS scheme it would have been clearer if she'd said so, eg: "My husband is a NHS employee and leases two cars from NHS Fleet Solutions - the first for him and the second for me"

I read the OP's post that there were two cars leased by the husband from NHS Fleet Solutions.

I may have read it incorrectly. Ability to lease two "company" cars would be rare generally. I do not know how the NHS scheme rules work.

If there was only one car (the household's "second car") from NHS Fleet Solutions, then the issue could be resolved by the husband using this "second car" and the OP using the household's "first car" (not from NHS Fleet Solutions). That simplicity of a solution seemingly not being viable is what makes me think there are two cars leased from NHS Fleet Solutions.

Tge OP needs business cover but anGS lease cars are only insured for business use for the NHS Trust the husband buys it through.

That is the problem the OP has- she has no cover for business use.
