New Small Family Car Suggestions?

Hi all,

I am in the market for a New or 6 month old petrol manual gearbox small family car.

I have had a Ford Fiesta for my last two cars over the years.

I was thinking Suzuki Swift or Skoda Fabia, but would appreciate suggestions, as to what you would go for. I have a budget of £20,000 approx.

Any replies would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

Both the Suzuki and Skoda are sensible options, I'd add Hyundai i20 for good equipment and warranty cover and the Dacia Sandero if value is the most important consideration

Your £20k will get you into a Toyota Yaris Hybrid.

Even the lower spec cars are fairly well equipped. The Hybrid system is pretty much bullet proof and these later cars come with a much better battery than the older ones. If it's big enough for you, that's what I'd consider.

They are ruthlessly frugal but they aren't manual.

Toyota offer what they call the "Relax Warranty". So every year, with every dealer service they will add another 12 months warranty up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Other manufacturers do similar, but it's worth checking which. I think Suzuki do something similar, but you might find the Swift a bit tinny.

One of my neighbour's has just retired from teaching and he swapped his 20 year old Fiesta for a 6 month old Suzuki Swift. They offer great value for money and now have the ten year annual warranty renewal with main dealer servicing, similar to Toyota.

We are a three Skoda family my daughter has Fabia (2016) a little basic but pretty bullet proof. My wife has a Kamiq which is in my view a better car punchy enough, but will cost a little more. Worth a look though.

I recently traded in my 14 year old polo for a 75 plate Audi A1. Went from 1.4l to 1.0l. 6 months old ex-demo from main Audi dealer with c2500 miles on the clock. Like new. 6 gears, super comfortable. Larger than the old polo. Super economical, over 50 mpg local use. Not the cheapest option but I'm very happy with it. Not maybe a typical Money saving choice but I don't regret the 'trade up' and it came within your budget. Worth a look…
